Crafting with Brittany: DIY Dishwasher Sign

Hi Everyone!

Hope you all are having a wonderful start to 2018! Our year started off kinda rough but things are looking up now. So as the title says, today I am showing you how I made a little sign for our dishwasher to update the one I made years ago. It was super easy and budget friendly, but a bit time-consuming. This is definitely a way to streamline your life so that you always know if your dishes are clean or dirty in your dishwasher. So let's get started!

Things You Will Need:
- scrabble tiles
- piece of cardboard
- scissors
- cement glue
- magnets

Step 1:
Glue the scrabble tiles using the cement glue to the small piece of cardboard. Be sure to arrange them so that when you flip it either way it is readable. Let it dry for at least a few hours

Step 2:
Cut any excess cardboard off and throw it away. Take a couple magnets and glue them on the back using the cement glue. Let this dry for awhile.

Step 3:
Put it on your dishwasher door and enjoy!

So that is it! I hope you enjoyed reading this post. If you make this little DIY, be sure to let me know in the comments below, linking to your video or blog post. I would love to see how you put your own twist on this. Thank you so much for stopping by and until next time, Happy Crafting! xo

How To Make A Menu Board That Is Affordable!!!

Hi Everyone!

So I am writing this from my bed. I am currently not feeling very well but I'm trying to keep to my schedule so this is my attempt. So tonight, I am bringing you a Menu Board DIY. This is something that has really helped Jesse and I stay organized when grocery shopping and for planning meals. It's really easy and doesn't take a lot of time. It is actually not too expensive, even less so if you have all the items you need already. Let's get into it!

Things You Need:
-scissors
-dry erase board
-washi tape
-chalkboard labels
-chalkboard marker
-alphabet stickers

Step 1:
Take your dry erase board and your washi tape and start deciding where you want to put everything. I had a 8 spots for the days of the week (A place to write 'What's for Dinner?' and then a space for each Day of the Week). On the right side, I had a Notes Section and a Grocery List space.

Step 2:
Cut strips of washi tape and place them on the dry erase board. The good thing about using washi tape is that it is easy to remove and re-place. You can move it multiple times and it will stick. Place washi tape until you have completed the template for your menu board.

Step 3:
Next, take your chalkboard labels and label the different areas (ie. Notes, Grocery List, Days of the Week). I also used some chalkboard labels to decorate the Days of the Week.

Step 4:
Next take your chalkboard marker and write in what each section is. You can use the chalkboard marker to mark each day of the week or you can use some alphabet stickers like I did. I used black alphabet stickers so they don't show up in the pictures, but you can use whatever. Make it your own!

And that's it! Your very own menu board! Like I said it can be pretty cheap if you already have the stuff. If not, be careful about spending too much. You don't want it to become an expensive project! I hope that you enjoyed this project tutorial! Be sure to leave me comments, pictures or links to your posts if you decide to tackle this project! I'd love to see what you all come up with. Until next time, Happy Crafting! xoxo

Travel with Brittany: Passport Cover DIY

Hi Everyone!

How are you? I hope you all are doing well! I am back with the first of a DIY Travel segment I would like to do. Today, I'm going to show you how to make your very own Passport cover.

After a month of searching for one, I still hadn't found one I liked besides one that had to be ordered and wouldn't arrive to my apartment on time. Then, while I was in Walmart with a friend one evening, I found Duct Tape that was Paris themed and that I actually really liked. So I bought the duct tape. A couple days later, the idea to make a Passport Cover hit me. I had made a wallet out of duct tape, so why couldn't I make a passport cover as well? I needed one as I was going to Cancun, so I figured, let's try to!

What You Need:
-duct tape
-scissors
-black duct tape or electrical tape

Step 1:
Cut three pieces of duct tape and lie them sticky side up on a flat surface. Take one of the pieces and lie it sticky side up overlapping the first piece. Do this with the third piece as well.

Step 2:
Cut three more pieces and place them on top of the three overlapped pieces, sticky side facing down. Be sure to overlap the second piece to the first piece and the third to the second piece. You should have a double sided sheet laying on the flat surface.

Step 3:
Next, take a piece of duct tape and fold it in half, putting the sticky sides together.Cut it so that it fits to the edges of each side of the sheet that you made.

Step 4:
Take the pieces you just made for either end of the sheet and use the electrical (or duct tape) tape to seal off the edges. Only do this to the edges that will face the middle of the passport holder. Once those have been taped, place them so that they cover the two sides of the inside of the passport holder. Then tape the outside edges. Do the width sides first (shorter length) and then tape the length sides.  Be sure that your passport will be able to be placed inside the two little pockets you have made. [NOTE: you may want to not tape one edge to the sheet of duct tape. If you leave it untaped, you will have an easier time slipping the passport in and out of the holder].

When finished, your passport holder will look like this (see picture to the right). It may take a couple tries to get it right but it can be done. It's fairly easy compared to making a wallet. Now all you need to do is slip your passport in it. I found it incredibly easy to spot my passport in my purse while in the airport.

I hope that you guys enjoyed this first travel DIY. I'm hoping to be posting a few more as I continue travelling. Be sure to post pictures in the comments if you do attempt this project... or leave me the links to your own posts of this project. Until next time, Happy Travelling! xoxo

DIY Magnet Sign

Hi my fellow DIY-ers!

Happy September! I cannot believe that the summer is over and school starts tomorrow. With the spirit of getting organized in order to start a new school year off right, I came across a little DIY project on Pinterest a few weeks ago. It is a magnet sign for your dishwasher so those in your family will know whether the dishwasher is clean or not. It is a good way to let people know whether or not they can put things in dishwasher or if it needs to be emptied. In my household, this is going to come in handy because with my husband at work a lot and me at home, he never knows if I've turned it on or emptied it and I never know if he has looked after it while I was out or busy. It's a very simple little DIY that will only take an hour tops! Let's get started, shall we?

Things you will need:
-scissors
-sticker paper
-magnet (one large enough to write on)
-pencil
-markers

Step 1:
Place the magnet over top of the sticker paper. Take your pencil and trace around the outside of the magnet. Cut it out

Step 2:
Carefully, peel the backing off the sticker paper and place on the front side of the magnet (the side that is not magnetic). You may need to cut out more pieces from the sticker paper. I had to do this with mine so you couldn't see what was on the actual magnet.

Step 3:
Once, the magnet is covered to your satisfaction, take your pencil and split the space in half horizontally. On one side write Clean and then flip it around (so that Clean is upside down) and write Dirty.

Step 4:
Use your markers to design it however you like. Do this until you are satisfied with it. Then hang it on the magnetic part of the dishwasher. (Note* Make sure your magnet is strong enough to stay on the dishwasher. Mine is not, so I need to get a stronger magnet and attach it to my sign.

And that's it! You're done your magnetic sign for your dishwasher. Hope this was a good tutorial and that you had fun creating this sign. Happy Crafting! xo

DIY Dry Erase Paint Chip Calendar

Hey my fellow crafters! Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
Tonight, I'm going to show you how to make your very own dry erase calendar, using a few simple things. This would make a great gift (I made this for my mom for Christmas this past year) or something unique for your apartment or house. It's so easy you can do this with kids, whether you are babysitting or have some of your own.
LET'S GET STARTED!!

Things you will need:
- paint chips in many colours (depends on what you want it to look like- these are free usually at any store that sells paint!)
-a frame in your preferred size
-glue
-a marker

Step 1:
The first thing you will want to do is cut apart the paint chips (unless they are already separate). Remember you will need enough to be able to cover the whole month. I had 42 squares - 7 across the top for the Days of the Week and 5 rows underneath for the each day in the month.

Step 2:
Once you have cut them out, take your frame and arrange the squares/rectangles. (Mine came out as rectangles). You can change the background color if you have a piece of paper the size of your frame in the color of your choice. I just used the back of the page that comes in the frame. I got the frame at the dollar store for 3 bucks. Once you have decided on an arrangement, start gluing the squares/rectangles down. Drawing lines on the paper in pencil may help with this. ** Also make sure you leave space to write the month**

Step 3:
Once you have completed gluing down the paint chips, you can erase the lines (if you made some) or you can take a black marker and go over them. Put the page back into the frame with the paint chip side facing towards the glass/plexi-glass. Close the frame up!

Step 4:
Now that it is complete, write the month and days of the week on the designated spots. I included a Notes section because I had some extra space! My frame was pretty big. Once you have done that, pair it with some cool coloured dry-erase markers. If you're giving it as a gift, wrap it up in a cool way!
HAPPY CRAFTING!!!

DIY Earring Holder

Hello my crafty friends!

I apologize for my lack of posting. Things have been pretty hectic personally. I figured I should post some new blogs considering the last one was the beginning of this month. Sorry for the delay. Anyway, this new post is a DIY earring holder. It is fairly simple.

Things you need:
- paint
-paint brush
-cheese grater
-duct tape
-gold hooks
-glue gun
-glue sticks (for the glue gun)

Step 1:
Paint the cheese grater in your desired color. (I chose red). I bought my cheese grater at the dollar store seeing as I didn't want to use the one my boyfriend and I have been using for the past couple years. The cheese grater was a dollar. You may have to do a few coats of thick paint to make it so you cant see any silver.

Step 2:
Once the coats of paint have been applied, heat up your glue gun and glue the gold hooks in each corner of the bottom of the cheese grater. Make sure they are all glued at the same height so that it will be level when sitting right side up.

Step 3:
My cheese grater came with a little handle. I took this off because I didn't like the color and replaced it with four pieces of duct tape which I wrapped on the inside too. Once that is done, you can choose to varnish it. (I haven't decided if I want to yet)

Step 4:
Put your earrings in the open holes on each side of the cheese grater. Enjoy your new earring holder

This craft is super easy to make. It took me about a day or two. This was mainly because you have to wait for the paint to dry, but after that, it is pretty simple. Enjoy! Happy Crafting!!! xoxo

DIY Rainy Day Change Holder

Hello Again, my crafty friends!

I figured I'd post a few more ideas so that I can start posting the new ideas I've been busy creating.

So the deal with this craft is that my boyfriend really doesn't like change, but I always end up with loose change somehow and it's always laying around our apartment. I figured it would be good to keep it in a jar and to save it for a rainy day or for something we both wanna buy. For awhile, I kept it in a mason jar with a post-it note taped to it that said "Vacation Change" but it was very boring. One night, while searching for ideas, I came across this plastic bottle piggy bank and was like "I bet you could do something similar (but more mature) for the same thing". So I put my creative thinking cap on and went to work. It is another easy project. And it didn't take me a whole lot of time.

Things you will need:
-a small cannister (hot chocolate or coffee works best)
-scrapbook paper
-scissors
-tape
-marker
-glue

Step 1:
Clean the cannister out and dry it.

Step 2:
Wrap your preferred piece of paper around the cannister and tape the ends together. Tape the edge of the scrapbook paper to the top edge of the cannister. This make it easier to put the lid back on. Next make a little sign that say "Rainy Day Savings" or "Vacation Savings". It can be whatever you want it to be.

Step 3:
Cut a rectangular slit in the lid long enough to fit toonies and folded up bills in. Once the hole is made, cover the lid in glue. Then put the preferred piece of paper on the lid.

Step 4:
Once dry, cut the paper where the slit is. Put the lid back on the cannister and enjoy saving for something with this bank that isn't boring!

Happy Crafting All!!!

DIY Plastic Bag Holder

Hello my crafty friends!

I have decided to post a few more posts considering I have been slacking lately. One morning, while I was tidying up my living room and kitchen, I noticed that my boyfriend and I have seemingly collected a large pile of plastic grocery bags. They were everywhere: shoved in cubby shelves, in a box, under the sink, in another basket. I decided enough was enough, we need to get rid of some and to put some in a place that would make the kitchen look more cluttered than it already is. So I came across this idea to make a plastic bag holder. It was super easy to do and didn't take a lot of time (maybe an hour)

Things you will need:
-an old litre coffee cannister (big one from Timmy's is what I used)
-scissors
-scrapbook paper to decorate it
-tape
-glue

Step 1:
Clean out the container and dry it.

Step 2:
Cut a hole in the lid about the size of toonie. You can make it bigger if you like.

Step 3:
Cover the cannister with the scrapbook paper of your choice and tape it together. With scrap pieces of paper, make a little sign that says "Plastic Bags" in the font of your choice.

Step 4:
Cover the lid in glue and then glue down a piece of scrapbook paper. When it has dried, cut the paper where you made the hole.

Step 5:
Tape the edge of the paper to the edge of the cannister. This helps the lid go on properly. Put the lid back on.

Step 6:
Fill with plastic bags and leave one sticking out so you can grab it. If you have time, roll the plastic bags so that each time you take one out, another is left sticking out in its place. (You can google how to do this - I didn't have the time)

After that, you are all done! Happy Crafting!

DIY Organizer for Flyers and Coupons

Hello my fellow crafters! Sorry for the delay in posts. I was away at a family reunion this past week so I didn't have a chance to post any blogs! This evening's DIY idea is a binder to store those coupons, take-out menus and flyers you find all over your place. As I was tidying up one night, I noticed that my boyfriend and I have a lot of these, which makes it harder to find stuff when it's needed. So one night, when I was searching for more ideas for this blog, I came across a binder to hold things in. I figured it might work for holding this kind of stuff too. It's super easy and doesn't take a long time.

Things you will need:
- a binder (2")
-dividers (i have four in mine so far)
-plastic page covers
-coupons, flyers and takeout menus

Step 1:
Empty any old or unwanted things out of the binder. Put the dividers in and label them. I labelled mine with the following:
-Cheap Things to do in the City
-Hygiene/Cleaning Coupons
-Grocery/Food Coupons
-Takeout Menus

Step 2:
Put the plastic page covers behind each divider and then put your coupons, flyers and takeout menus in their designated areas. You can decorate the front if you want to. I left mine how it was decorate before I made it an organizer. It is entirely up to you.

Step 3:
Stick it in the kitchen where you wont forget about it and that is easy to find/get to and enjoy having a place to put all those flyers and coupons that take up so much space on counters.

Happy Crafting! xo
